Madeleine Ruggli was born in 1964 in Thalwil, Switzerland. Starting her career as a radio presenter, journalist, and as a voice-over professional for advertisement and documentary film, she then shifted her focus to music. She studied at the Musical College in Zurich, with an emphasis on composition, music theory, and voice. Her œuvre comprises orchestral and chamber music, with diverse instrumentation.
In 2001 Ruggli was awarded the Werkjahr prize by the City of Zurich for her compositional output. Since 2005 Ruggli has been teaching music history, music theory, song formation, and chamber music at the Musical College in Lucerne. She lives in France and Switzerland.
