Boudewijn Cox

Works

Boudewijn Cox was born in 1965 in Huybergen, the Netherlands, and grew up in Rijkevorsel, Belgium. He received his diploma for guitar, chamber music, harmony, counterpoint, and polyphony at the Lemmensinstituut in Leuven.

Cox has been teaching at the academy in Wemmel since 1993, and in 2009–2010 he lectured in composition at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. Since 1998 he and his wife have hosted benefit concerts in support of the aid project SaSel in El Salvador. Cox is a frequent juror at various composition contests.

He has received many accolades for his work; with Da una certa distanza he won the 2006 competition at the Brandenburg Biennale. His Prelude for piano was a set piece in the 1999 semi-finale of the Queen-Elisabeth-Competition in Brussels.

His compositions are performed frequently by numerous renowned musicians and orchestras (such as Myriam Bogaerts, Jenny Lin, I Solisti del Vento, Worldbrass, the Flemish Radio Orchestra, and the Czech Philharmonic) and in prestigious concert halls (such as the Berlin Philharmonic, the Prague Rudolfinum, and Carnegie Hall).
